Grand Alliance services calling at Northport provide shippers in Malaysia with direct sailings to all major markets on the Asia–Europe trade routes, from China to northern Europe. The new agreement among the GA members will reinforce Northport’s role in these key services.
The members of the Grand Alliance, which was founded in 1998, are Hapag-Lloyd of Germany, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) of Japan, Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) of Hong Kong and Malaysia’s flag carrier, MISC Berhad.
In a recent statement, GA announced that its members had agreed to extend their cooperation for a further term of ten years up to 2017. One of the key aspects for future cooperation is to offer a higher frequency of sailings in fast-growing markets. Depending on customer demand, the members will also consider expanding the scope of the Alliance.
