Until recently, the application for the required Harbour Revision Order (HRO) had one outstanding objection, which could have called for a public inquiry before the Department for Transport (DfT) would evaluate the proposals.
PD Ports has held a series of discussions with Hutchison Ports about its concerns regarding capacity in the rail network for the increase of rail freight resulting from the proposed NGCT.
PD Ports CEO David Robinson pointed out that the Northern Gateway will act as a Northern port for Northern markets, and said that PD Ports has decided to address Hutchison’s concerns directly by contributing to the provision of upgrades to the East Coast Main Line and diversionary routes.
