The Poland Express service, which will initially operate weekly from the HHLA/CTA Altenwerder container terminal, has been developed in conjunction with HMM’s Asia-Europe Express (AEX) container service. It will be used primarily by the shipping company clients of LG Electronics and Pantos Logistics, who need to transport particularly time-critical consignments.
In 2006, marine traffic transportation to and from Poland via the Port of Hamburg totalled 267,666 teu, a year-on-year increase of 18%. Hamburg’s overall transhipment tonnage with Poland amounted to 3.3m tonnes, of which 26% was bulk cargo. During the first six months of 2007, transhipment to/from Poland via Hamburg amounted to 149,904 teu, a year-on-year increase of 24%.
Approximately 82,000 teu per year are transported using the block train connections of Polzug Intermodal GmbH, which operates four of its own terminals in Poland and three further terminals in co-operation with partners.
