Long beach Container Trade Up 6.4% in September

Port terminals moved a total of 654,109 teu in September, compared to 614,739 teu in September 2006. Imported containers increased by 4.4%, to 331,507 teu, while export containers increased by 36.7% to 134,842 teu. The movement of empty containers, most of which are sent overseas to be refilled with products, decreased by 5.4%, to 187,760 teu.

September was the fourth consecutive month of export increases of more than 30%. In the first nine months of 2007, total container trade has increased by 1.3% compared to the same time period in 2006.
