Atlantic Container Line (ACL) began calling at the Port Newark Container Terminal (PNCT) at the Port of New York/New Jersey on November 6, 2007. The Atlantic Companion, one of ACL’s five combination ro-ro/container ships, was the first vessel to call on ACL’s A Service. The Italian-owned ACL has signed a seven-year agreement with PNCT and will call at the terminal twice weekly.

“We are delighted to have another first-class ocean carrier such as ACL join PNCT’s customer roster. The facilities of PNCT can easily serve ACL’s requirements with an efficient and quick turnaround. We look forward to a long and successful relationship,” commented Don Hamm, president of PNCT.

PNCT, owned by Ports America, Inc., a wholly-owned company of the AIG Global Investment Group, is the most advanced multi-purpose container terminal on the US East Coast. It covers 178 acres and 4,400 ft of deepwater wharf, and has the capacity to handle in excess of 1m teu a year.

It can accommodate super post-Panamax vessels utilising state-of-the-art container cranes, including two new ZPMC units. It also has an expanded straddle carrier fleet, advanced terminal management systems and gate technology, and a near-dock rail facility for its exclusive use.
