Exports accounted for 67.5% (41.5 m tonnes) which was up 6%. Imports did even better, jumping 15% to almost 20m tonnes. Containers generated 20.3m tonnes of cargo, about a third of the port’s total volume, and an increase from a year ago of 6.8% with the box count up7.8% to 1,894,683 teu.
Santos remains first among Brazilian ports based on cargo value with a nine month total of US$52bn, compared to just US$4.8bn for second place Vitória and US$4.2bn for the third ranked Port of Paranaguá.
