Westports executive director, Ruben Emir Gnanalingam said the achievement was yet another milestone for the port which hit the first million teu in 2000, the second million in 2002 and the third million last year and that he expected an overall volume growth of 17% this year. Local volumes had also continued last year’s momentum, surpassing 1m teu with a 15% growth to 1.23m teu being achieved this year, up from 1.07m teu in 2006.
“Our productivity has always been our hallmark and we are constantly looking at ways to improve the level of service that we offer to our customers. We are extremely pleased that we have been able to meet our customers’ requirements on this momentous occasion,” he said
