The funding has been awarded under the Port’s 2006–07 Air Quality Mitigation Incentive Program, and is one of the steps that the Port is taking in accordance with California’s Green Port Initiative. POLA’s Technical Advisory Committee approved one system for each port tenant, requesting that the systems be applied to cranes of different brands. This will give VYCON an opportunity to demonstrate that its flywheel technology is a universal solution.
“This award from the Port of Los Angeles is a significant first step forward in reducing emissions in California ports and around our cities,” said Tony Aoun, CEO of VYCON. “We are delighted to be at the forefront of this programme, and grateful to POLA for the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the REGEN system on a variety of manufacturers’ RTG cranes.”
