Founded in 1882, OPDR today specialises in traffic between northwest Europe and Morocco, Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands and Madeira. It is used as a feeder carrier by all the major deep sea carriers, and runs approximately 15 vessels during a season. Because of the short distances involved and the types of commodities carried (mainly fruits, vegetables and pharmaceuticals), OPDR did not necessarily need MAGNUM’s industry-leading -35°F cooling temperatures. Rather, it wanted the reliability and cost savings promised by the company.
“The short-sea traffic trade means a lot of container loading and discharging movements within a brief time,” explained Horst-Hermann Manthey, manager of container logistics at OPDR. “The MAGNUM technology and performance have proved extremely dependable in a short time-frame. As promised, the units have demonstrated their lower energy consumption, which has contributed to significant cost savings for us.”
OPDR also gets reliable service and support from Thermo King’s dealer and service network, which includes over 800 dealers worldwide, more than 60 of them in Europe. “We’re very satisfied with the technical support we receive from Thermo King and its dealers,” said Manthey. “OPDR takes pride in the service it provides customers, so it’s what we expect from our industry partners as well.”
