There are already 18 Konecranes RTGs in the Port of Manzanillo; the first were installed at the end of 1990s. Manzanillo is the largest port in Mexico and a prime port of entry to the country, with an annual capacity of 1.41m teu. Because of increased container traffic, the customer is adding new equipment to its fleet.
The six RTGs will be used to provide flexible, high-capacity container handling. The 16-wheel RTGs have a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes and can stack one over six containers high and six wide plus a truck lane.
“Our co-operation with Konecranes has run very smoothly,” said Troy Hatherell, general manager at SSA Mexico. “The RTGs ordered are high-efficiency cranes with modern technology. With these new cranes we are looking to increase productivity at our port.”
