Lonrho views the port and shipping industry in Africa as a strategic industry sector, and is focused on building its current businesses there, which include SA Independent Liner Services Pty Ltd (SAILS) in South Africa and the Lonrho oil services port, Luba Freeport, in Equatorial Guinea.
SAILS is a container shipping line with an operating fleet of six vessels. Its main container service is to exporters and importers on the Europe, West African and South African trade routes. Luba Freeport acts as a logistics centre for the burgeoning oil and gas industries in the Gulf of Guinea and services major oil companies in the region. Albeck’s role will be to expand the company’s current operations and to deliver new opportunities.
David Lenigas, executive chairman of Lonrho, commented: “I am delighted to welcome Peter to the Lonrho management team. His industry experience and knowledge will be of great assistance in delivering growth in our existing operations and in evaluating several exciting new opportunities that the Board is considering.”
