They included two post-Panamax ship-to-shore container cranes manufactured in China for Mobile Container Terminal (MCT). Each crane is 240 ft tall and 90 ft wide and has a gauge width of 100 ft, a boom length of 150 ft and a lifting capacity of 65 tons. The cranes will have a 60 containers per hour cycle time and sufficient span to reach across 18 container rows.
MCT is a public/private partnership between the Alabama State Port Authority and Mobile Container Terminal, LLC, and represents just over US$300m in new infrastructure and equipment investment. The port authority and Mobile Container Terminal LLC announced their venture in November 2005 shortly after construction permits for the container terminal were approved.
