New Indian Ocean service for Sharjah

The 1,000 teu/13,500 dwt Harmony, operated by Orient Shipping, made its first call on March 29, 2008. Terminal manager Paul Hennessy said: “We are delighted that this new service will allow exporters and importers the opportunity to service Mumbai, Karachi and Mundra using the SCT gateway for the UAE.

“Our Terminal in Sharjah, in addition to our other option via Khorfakkan, allows faster and cheaper distribution in and out of the UAE market – and Orient’s decision to call at SCT is yet more evidence of the pressure from traders to have better alternatives available for them to use, to cope with a road infrastructure under severe pressure.”
