The ambitious project is comprised of two parts. First, it will involve the overhaul and development of ship repair operations at Dock 10 to satisfy increasing demand for dry dock capacity for large merchant vessels and ferries in the Mediterranean. Dock 10 – 465 m long with 10 ha of wharf area and a 17 m draught – offers huge potential, according to CMA CGM. Second, a yacht marina will be created in L’Estaque, with leisure facilities and a yacht shipyard.
Where possible, CMA CGM will employ local companies for the construction and overhaul work, which is expected to take two to three years to complete. Once operational, the new facilities will generate 800 jobs. The project reflects CMA CGM Group’s dedication to promoting the image of Marseilles, the company’s base since 1978, as an industrial and tourist hub. The initiative will also allow it to guarantee dry dock capacity for its rapidly expanding fleet.
