The seventh-generation ESC W straddle carriers will be delivered starting in autumn 2008, with the last units arriving at the beginning of 2009. The new four-high units will have a lift capacity of 40 tonnes and will have electrical winch hoists.

Eurogate is Europe’s leading container terminal and logistics group, operating at nine terminals across Europe and handling more than 13.9m teu a year. “Eurogate first implemented Kalmar ESC W straddle carriers in its Hamburg container handling operation two years ago. The operator was immediately pleased with the machines’ excellent performance, reduced fuel cost, minimal noise output and eco-friendliness,” commented Ilkka Annala, vice president Kalmar Straddle Carriers.
Kalmar’s ESC W units have been designed to meet the ever-stricter environmental regulations and tough noise standards of German ports. The machines feature electrically controlled engines, which reduce exhaust emissions and fuel consumption, making them environmentally friendly as well as cost-effective. Their soft landing and automatic container picking systems minimise noise generated by container handling, according to Kalmar.
