The US$10m STS state-of-the-art crane was officially commissioned by Minister of Works and Transport, Colm Imbert, at an event which was attended by the port’s major stakeholders.
During his address Minister Imbert noted milestone achievements at PPOS, including the contract awarded to Portia Management Services Limited, the UK’s largest port management company, as terminal operator in March 2006 and the implementation of a computerised system for the online management and tracking of containers.
In terms of infrastructure improvements, he highlighted the reconstruction of Berth 7, and the preparation of a separate area for the storage of imported vehicles and the construction of the adjoining bridge to the cargo terminal to free up additional storage of containers.
