The tanks, imported via Rotterdam by SABMiller’s Russian subsidiary, were each 7 m high with a 6.6 m diameter. The total weight of the cargo exceeded 306 tons. Although OMG Western Terminal’s first project cargo required a complex offloading process, discharge from vessel to berth to warehouse took just 16 hours.
Keith Parker, managing director of OMG’s London office, said: “Since we acquired Western Terminal in 2007, we’ve embarked on a modernisation plan designed to shift its focus on timber exports. The SABMiller cargo is the first fruit of that strategy and demonstrates St Petersburg Port’s potential to benefit from continuing inward investment into Russia.”
