With its 208-tonne lifting capacity, the crane has seven times the lifting capacity of a conventional crane. It is fast and flexible, which means that ship loading and unloading times can be significantly reduced.
The new crane will be shipped fully ready for use from the factory on a ro-ro deck barge, and is expected to arrive at Waalhaven North Side 4 in Rotterdam around September 23–26, 2008. According to the current schedule, the crane will travel from the deck barge to rhb’s quay entirely under its own power on September 27, 2008, at about 12 noon.
Conventional cranes have a limited capacity for handling heavy industrial breakbulk and project cargo such as motors, transformers, wind turbines and factory components. Aside from its enormous lifting capacity, says rhb, the big advantages of the Liebherr LHM 600 S are its speed and flexibility. The mobile crane has 13 axles and 104 wheels and can be deployed on any segment of rhb’s 730 m long quay. The improved crane capacity it brings will contribute to a further increase in the handling of project cargo in the Port of Rotterdam.
