According to Vyacheslav Pertsev, general director of Vladivostok Commercial Seaport Co., Plc, the “purchase of the container equipment was made under the approved strategy of the port’s development until 2015, integrated into the general strategy of FESCO Transportation Group, focused on container business development.” The Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO) is based in Vladivostok and is Russia’s largest container operator, with a fleet of 72 vessels.
Two STS cranes of 50-tonne capacity and two RMG cranes of 45-tonne capacity were designed especially for Vladivostok by Zhenhua Port Machinery Co. Ltd (ZPMC) of Shanghai. They were delivered to the Golden Horn Bay on the special-purpose ship Zhenhua 1, and will be operated on berths No. 15 and No. 16 at the Port.
The purchase of the heavy-lift cranes follows an 18-month feasibility study and a year of preparation works, including reconstruction of the road coverage, under-crane rails, and engineering and electrical networks.
