Under the agreement, Becker will seek to incorporate SingTel’s suite of Maritime Satellite solutions into its umc.global network managed service platform. By extending applications such as corporate e-mail, intranet and internet access as well as voice communications to sea-bound employees in a secure manner, ships can become seamless extensions of the shore-based office, said the company.
SingTel will explore offering Becker’s umc.connect portnet ship2shore service in more than 80 seaports worldwide. With this solution, vessels close to the shore or in port can reduce costs by switching their satellite broadband connections to SingTel’s high-speed land-based wi-fi or mobile networks using umc.connect portnet communication services.
The agreement also looks into providing umc.global network customers with flat-rate 2G, 3G and 3.5G roaming coverage via SingTel and Bridge Alliance networks in 11 countries across Asia (Australia, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand).
