The cranes will be added to three similar units already in operation on the deepwater quay. Capable of working up to 23 rows across, they can lift two 20 ft containers simultaneously in twin-lift mode and two 40 ft containers in tandem-lift operation.
The NFTI container terminal now has four berths available to receive some of the biggest container vessels in the world. It already receives calls from the FAL3 (French Asia Line) of CMA CGM and Maersk’s AE10 Asia-Europe service.
NFTI, an affiliate of APM Terminals, Terminal Link and the Port Authority of Dunkirk, has a quay length of 1,700 m and draughts of 16.5 m, and is located just 90 minutes from the most frequently used maritime route in the world. In 2008, it expects to handle the equivalent of 220,000 teu.
