Last year, Yang Ming was awarded a 50-year build-operation-transfer (BOT) contract by Kaohsiung Harbor Bureau to operate an international container terminal for 50 years. The first two berths are expected to be operational in 2010, with the remaining two available at the end of 2013.
With an expected annual throughput of 2m teus, KMCT will operate as a semi-automated terminal, with four berths equipped with 40 ARMGs (Automated Rail-Mounted Gantry Cranes) and 12 gantry cranes. It will be the first automated terminal operated by Yang Ming.
