A. CH. Jahan, container and logistics manager of Tidewater Middle East, the operator of the terminals told CM that, “Despite the global economic slowdown that has affected most other ports in the world, we achieved 1.8m teu by the end of November and if as expected, we achieve a throughput of 2m teu for 2008 it will be a remarkable record.”
Following the opening of Phase I of the second Container Terminal in February 2008 (Shahid Rajaee Container Terminal 2), the annual capacity of Bandar Abbas Port was increased to 3.3m teu.
“Transhipment volumes destined to other Persian Gulf Ports and Caucasia via Bandar Abbas have increased at the expense of Jebel Au and Poti which have suffered from congestion and the recent Russian attacks on Georgia,” said Jahan.
