Panama Canal commissions new dredger

Moving forward with its equipment upgrades for its expansion programme, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) has awarded a $95.92m contract to IHC Beaver Dredgers B.V. to design and build a new, more powerful cutter suction dredger. The Dutch company is the world leader in the design, fabrication and supply of equipment and services for the dredging and alluvial mining industries, claiming 50% of the dredging market worldwide. Konecranes acquires Spanish crane company

Konecranes acquired the entire share capital of Spanish crane and service company Eydimen 2000 S.L., based in San Sebastian in Northern Spain, at the beginning of March 2008. Prior to this transaction, Konecranes held 19.2 per cent of the share capital in Eydimen, which has been selling Konecranes-branded industrial cranes in Spain since 2005. Read More »

Tacoma boosts on-dock rail operations

Kalmar Industries has won an order from the Port of Tacoma on the US West Coast to supply seven CSC 340 straddle carriers for the Port’s extensive on-dock intermodal rail operations. Mombasa growth highlights needs for expansion

The Port of Mombasa handled a record 15,925,955 tonnes of cargo in 2007, an increase of 1,507,017 tons or 10.5 per cent over 2006 volumes.
