The contract has been awarded to South Korea based Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Company, which is expected to begin work this month (January), with completion scheduled for July 2010.
The new cranes will have a 65-long-tonne lift capacity, 110-foot lift height, 167-foot outreach and 75-foot back reach. Once fully operational, they will bring to six the number of multi-purpose gantry cranes at the Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal.
Payment will by a US$24.6m appropriation the Port received from the Louisiana Legislature last year, with the remaining balance being paid by the Board’s capital budget.
