For the environment Northport and MPK organized coastal cleaning and recycling activities focused on the esplanade as well as along the coastline. Conservation efforts are being concentrated on the areas of mangrove, with more than 500 trees being planted along the coastline to protect the land from erosion. Other activities organised through 2008 included energy saving and crime prevention campaigns, as well as an essay writing competition.
“This is not the first time Northport and MPK have come together to work on a corporate social responsibility (CSR) based project. Earlier this year together we planted 500 trees adding to the existing 100,000 trees in Port Klang to help the depleting ozone layer level and also to reduce the ill effects of environmental degradation. We view CSR as one of the key activities in doing business,” said Northport’s managing director/CEO, Dato’ Basheer Abdul Kader.
“We have an important role to play in safeguarding the healthy and safe living of the community. By doing so we believe that we can make a difference to every individual and with this, we believe that the best quality of life can be achieved,” he added.
