ULIC commenced operations six years ago and is the first private terminal operator in Keelung port. The four berth facilities with 12 m depth alongside are able to accommodate 5,000 teu container vessels.
ULIC claims it will invest about NTD4.7 billion (US$140m) to purchase new gantry cranes and other related equipment to upgrade the terminal facilities in order to provide improved loading/unloading services for its clients. Moreover, in order to operate the direct-link across the Taiwan Strait, ULIC plans to acquire some backland at E20 in order to build logistic warehouses and run a value-added logistic business.
The Keelung Harbor Bureau says that the relationship with ULIC is not only between lessor and lessee but also as partners relying on each other and working together to make a better future for Keelung Port.
