“We are delighted with this document”, said Claudio Martini, president of the CRPM, “and we think that the Commission has taken an important step to making maritime transport more competitive.”
The CRPM has been working on this issue for the long time and according to Martini, the two measures proposed in the Blue Paper are “crucial for giving essential concrete form to the Motorways of the Sea, and so necessary for the reality of modal transfer, which contributes to the reducing congestion on European roads, to the quality of life and to the safety of populations.”
The CRPM has also noted that maritime transport and the Motorways of the Sea cannot be correctly developed if a European ship which sails between two EU ports has to carry out the same administrative formalities on departure and arrival as a ship carrying out international trade.
