Starting in April or May and to be completed during this year, the reorganisation will affect 175 employees working in R&D, technology, sales, sourcing and logistics, as well as those directly involved with assembly, all of whom will be given the opportunity to relocate. The service operations, finance and accounting functions will remain in Ljungby.
Costing approximately €4m to achieve, the transfer is expected to result in annual savings of €2m. An additional €3m will need to be invested in Lidhult to accommodate the new products. This initiative is in line with Cargotec’s long-term goal to improve competitiveness to sustain a leading position in the European market, with the transfer cost covered by the company’s earlier announced €35m total cost to restructure operations.
Kalmar assembles reachstackers, container handlers and forklift trucks in Ljungby and Lidhult. At the start of the year 380 staff were employed in Ljungby and 340 in Lidhult. Cargotec employs approximately 2,400 employees in Sweden.
