Converteam, a specialist in power conversion engineering, will play a lead role in this complex project, with overall responsibility for design, delivery and commissioning of diverse elements of electrical systems, control equipment and mechanical systems, and even for repainting the cranes.
The work includes the installation of modern DC drive systems under PLC control, refurbishment of motors/gearboxes, upgrade of the electrical supply system and installation of a new e-chain/festoon system, new operator’s cabin, new lift, new cable reeler and overhaul/replacement of the storm brakes. The work on the cranes is scheduled for completion by the end of 2009.
Alistair Crawford, Materials Handling UK sales manager for Converteam, said, “TCS has chosen to invest in these cranes as a sound economical proposition and to dramatically enhance operator facilities at the same time. The outcome will be measurable in terms of reduced downtime, improved productivity and a significant overall reduction in capital expenditure and operating costs. Rather than approaching end of life, it is estimated that this project will ensure a minimum of a further 10 years of productive life for these cranes.”
