“Through the Glückauf Express, duisport will promote the integration of the Ruhr transportation system. The Port of Duisburg also provides Gelsenkirchen and Dortmund with direct access to the large sea ports in Belgium and the Netherlands,” said Duisburger Hafen AG’s CEO Erich Staake.
As regards incoming cargo, shippers at the Marl Chemsite in particular will benefit from the new rail line, which will move their freight via Duisburg and the new connection to Dortmund and the large German North Sea ports. According to Staake, the shuttle service is another major step forward to making the Ruhr region the largest inland shipping hub in Europe, with the Port of Duisburg as the leading gateway to the markets of Central Europe.
