Alphaliner notes that idle capacity is growing, but at a slower pace than in the past three months as shipping demand picks up during the southern Hemisphere fruit export season. The idle fleet includes 243 “charter market ships” (370,000 teu) awaiting employment. The remaining 241 idlers (1,040,000 teu) are owned or chartered by ocean carriers. Among the 484 idle ships, according to Alphaliner, are 24 ranging capacity from 7,500 to 10,000 teu and 58 of between 5,000 and 7,500 teu.
