The investment funding will be split approximately US$215m from the port, US$250 m from maritime businesses, with the remaining US$185m coming from trucking businesses.
Announcing the plan, Port of Oakland executive director, Omar Benjamin, said, “This plan will guide us from now through to 2020 on how we reduce diesel pollution”.
With new regulations coming into effect over future years, Benjamin added, “Our actions today, along with those of our partners and other stakeholders, will help clean up the air for a healthier community. We are confident and intend to achieve our goal of reducing the health risk from diesel pollution from port sources by 85% by the year 2020.”
