The carrier fleet will serve the new Algeciras terminal, owned by Hanjin Shipping, by providing transportation of containers between the ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and automatic stacking cranes (ASC), the key benefit being the carrier’s ability to leave and pick up containers placed on the ground by the two crane systems, thereby eliminating waiting times.
This combination of equipment working together achieves high productivity with lowest number of horizontal transportation vehicles.
The TTI Algeciras terminal, with more than 1,200 metres of quayside able to serve vessels carrying up to 10,000 teu, is expected to handle more than 1.5m teu annually once it becomes operational in 2010. The new terminal will serve as a hub for transhipment between Africa, Northern Europe, the US east coast and South America.
