Candidates on the ‘Magnum/Magnet’ leadership training programme, which is designed to serve APMT’s global business needs for the future, must qualify for the 24 month intensive process that covers all aspects of the port business as well as global business.
Congratulating the graduates, AP Moller–Maersk Group CEO and APM Terminals Chairman of the Board, Nils Smedegaard Andersen said, “We will build the strongest team in the industry and you will be an important part of it. To succeed, we need great execution – and we need all of you to hit the ground running”.
The top graduates were: ‘Magnum’: Kurt Sulzbach, Terminal Manager, APMT, Oakland, California; ‘Magnet’: Prakash Krishnamoorthi, Commercial Manager, Port of Salalah, Oman; ‘Technical Magnum’: Salim Jarrar, Technical Manager, Aqaba Container Terminal, Jordan; and ‘Finance Magnet’: Sunil Bansal, Deputy CFO, APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria.
Explaining the company’s current position in the industry, its future ambition and the challenges ahead for the graduates, APMT’s CEO Kim Fejfer said, “The world and the business environment has changed in a dramatic way. Our ambition is to become the leading terminal operator in the industry and each of you is role models in the organisation, with an important responsibility on your shoulders to promote business and the way we conduct ourselves as leaders”.
“All of you have received training in A.P. Moller values, leadership, project management, finance and terminal operations. But we should remember that the best place to learn is on the job. It is out there – on the terminals and in the port projects – that the dollars are earned, money saved and productivity improved,” he added.
There are four training programmes: ‘Magnum’ is for future terminal leadership; ‘Technical Magnum’ for developing technical leadership; ‘Magnet’ is for professionals who aspire to step into managerial/operational roles at their local terminals; ‘Finance Magnet’ develops future CFOs.
