In order to meet current and future environmental requirements, the two companies are aiming to employ container handling equipment that produces zero exhaust emissions in ports and terminals.
Dr. Mathias Dobner, Gottwald’s CEO and Chief Technical Officer said, “The Battery AGV is an important module in handling equipment being developed as part of Gottwald’s Green Range. By implementing zero-emission, low-consumption and thus environmentally aware technologies, we aim to meet the requirements of our customers.”
The HHLA and Gottwald technological partnership began in year 2000 and today HHLA’s AGV fleet at CTA comprises 90 units. Since 2006, HHLA has employed diesel-electric AGVs that are significantly quieter in operation than their diesel-hydraulic predecessors. In addition, they save 25% on fuel costs and reduce exhaust emissions thus making a substantial contribution to environmental protection.
