The grant is part of the US$25m allocated in 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding announced to help California agencies reduce diesel exhaust. The money will go to six port tenant customers who own and operate the equipment.
As part of its move towards cleaner operations, Ports America recently tested the new Capacity of Texas hybrid Pluggable Hybrid Electric Terminal Tractor (PHETT) at Total Terminals International’s Pier T when it stopped in Long Beach for two weeks as it travels across the USA on a demonstration tour.
Ports America area equipment services manager, Kenton Pope, said “Compared to the other electrical vehicle we have reviewed and tested, Capacity has done its homework in making a vehicle that fulfills the needs of a working terminal that operates around the clock. We look forward to the data that was gathered by the engineers for the Port of Long Beach.”
