In the first six months of 2008 imports reduced by 28%, whilst exports recorded a rise of one percent. During Q1-2009 imports dropped a staggering 40%, with exports declining by 12%.
Worst hit were imports of general cargoes and bulks/loose cargo, which decreased by 49% and 14% respectively. Positive figures were recorded for exports in steel, rising 36% and coal and iron, both recording a 35% increase
Compared to last year, volumes handled by First Stevedoring Company reached two million tonnes, a 26% decrease, with Second Stevedoring Company handling 900,000 tonnes, a 10% increase. The car terminal of the Third Stevedoring Company performed no handling operations in the first half of 2009, whilst the Universal Handling facility in Ust-Luga handled 400,000 tonnes.
