“In the past it had been believed that Bandar abbas was not capable of handling such vessels but having completed the first phase development of the second container terminal, we made it possible,” said A Jahan, container and logistics manager of Tidewater Middle East Company, operators of the container terminal.
Development work at the port involved increasing the length and depth of the terminal, as well as increasing the yard area and providing new handling equipment.
Last year the port broke through the two million barrier for the first time, handling 2,000,230 teus, a 16% increase over 2007.
