This was the country’s best port performance to date, outstripping the other major ports which reported decreases of 30%, 9% and 25% each respectively for the same period.
In container traffic, Lazaro Cardenas was the only port to show an increase: up 62% in Q2 with 257,469 teu compared with decreases in the other ports with Manzanillo, Altamira and Ensenada each down by 33%, 19% and 36%.
According to the port authority the principle reason for the increase was CSAV, Hamburg Süd and CCNI moving from the Port of Manzanillo in August because LCT has no congestion, the lowest dwell time of any Mexican port and with a closer proximity to Mexico City and the Monterrey northern market the move was in the lines’ best interests as it increased their fleet capacity.
