DKT is investing a total of Euro 15m (US$21.8m) Euros in the terminal which will have a capacity of 120,000 teu and a storage capacity of 1,800 teu. Scheduled to begin operations mid-December 2009, the terminal will handle cargo for any customer and operator says the company.
DKT plans to use adjacent land for enhanced-value logistic services for the chemical industry. As project manager Thomas Schnider explained, “DKT will be the first logistic hub for chemical distribution in Europe’s largest inland port. The excellent integration of the port in the European railroad and waterway systems makes Duisburg a perfect central location for Europe-wide storage and distribution systems.”
