The Sarens Group, a heavy-lifting specialist from Belgium was awarded the project to install several E-126 wind turbines at the Port of Hamburg’s Altenwerder terminal. According to the company, the sheer magnitude of the turbine it is way beyond anything that has ever been done before. With the generator’s axle 135 m high and a rotor diameter of 127 m the total height is just under 200 m.
The complete upper part, with its turbine house, hub, and blades, weighs 650 tonnes. Firstly the 128 tonne nacelle has to be lifted followed by the 220 tonne generator. The final and largest lift is the hub with its steel blades which weighs 303 tonnes and we are now in a position to easily deal with these challenges, said the company.
With its 4m wide main boom and an SSL/LSL + LF configuration, the CC 9800 can lift loads weighing over 300 tonnes to a hub height of just under 135 m. In Hamburg, the Terex® CC 9800 was supported by a Terex® CC 1500 that guided the third blade body for the first few metres.
