The Tan Cang-Cai Mep International Container project consists of two phases. Opened this June, Phase 1, with a 300 m long quay and 20 hectare yard, is capable of handling 650,000 teus per year. Currently the port receives two shipments from MOL and Hanjin vessels carrying transshipment boxes each week.
Completion of Phase II, due to become operational by November 2010, will double the length of the quay to 600 m and increase the capacity of the yard to 40 ha container yard, enabling SNP to handle 1.1m teus annually. Tan Cang-Cai Mep is expected to become one of the largest deepwater river container transshipment ports of Vietnam.
