Q3 throughput was 8% lower at 943,805 teu compared to the 1,021,499 teu in the same period in 2008 and for the nine months to September 2009, total teu volumes declined by 9% to 2,533,951 teu.
Volume from container terminals in Asia was relatively flat in Q3 with a slight decline of just 0.4% to 597,076 teu and volumes for the first nine months were 1,604,787 teu, barely lower than the 1,624,678 teu in same period in 2008. ICTSI’s container terminal in Asia, comprising terminals in the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and China accounted for 63% of consolidated volumes in Q3.
Volumes at ICTSI’s Latin American terminals in Brazil (TSSA Suape) and Ecuador (Guayaquil) were marginally lower by 2% in Q3 at 232,599 teu compared to the 237,888 teu in the same period in 2008. Volumes for the nine months in 2009 were 626,410 teu against 647,389 teu in 2008.
