“He has an excellent relationship with the ILA and has been involved in labor and contract negotiations with VIT,” said Joe Dorto, VIT’s general manager and chief executive officer. “He is part of the team working on the lease-agreement negotiations with APMT – he has some very valuable experience and because of that the plan all along was to move him up through the ranks.
“His experience and respect within the industry make him a very good fit for the post and he is the man we wanted all along. I am very pleased with this transition,” he said.
Ruddy’s experience is varied: With bachelor’s degree from Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master’s from Trenton State College he has spent time in operations, equipment control, maintenance and repair, shipline sales and labour relations. He has served as VIT’s director of operations and labour for the last two years and before that he served four years as general manager of Virginia Intermodal Management, the parent company of the Hampton Roads Chassis Pool.
