Haiti’s port infrastructure still inoperable

The port is currently unusable because of damaged berths and debris in the water: to date it has been impossible to ascertain how long emergency repairs will take to allow ships to berth.

What is known, is that the STS crane has been wrecked and at least one Gottwald mobile harbour crane – the newest – is underwater. Latest indications are that the second mobile harbour crane is still working but it not much use on the damaged quay on which vessels are currently unable to berth.

One good piece of news according to a CM source, is that all port workers and their families are safe.
