Last year the terminal was dredged from 13.9 metres to 14.5 m. This, along with a total of 24 super-post Panamax cranes once the current Phase II becomes operational in 2012, will enable SCCT to accommodate the largest containerships.
Anticipating further growth in market share and container volumes, Phase II will double the facility’s current capacity to 5.4m teu.
SCCT, which is located in Port Said East near the mouth of the canal, was officially opened in December 2004, and handles major shipping lines such as Hanjin, COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming and CMA-CGM, as well as Maersk Line.
