Terbasa has remained empty for some years and was previously under the jurisdiction of the defunct National Grain Board (Junta Nacional de Granos JNG). The terminal also has a Customs Bonded (Fiscal) Warehouse on site.
The future of Terbasa has been in doubt for some years with APM Terminals consistently denying that it was interested in acquiring a grain handling facility and that the cost of removing the silos to covert the quay to container handling would not be economically feasible.
Many have argued that it was obvious that at some future date APM terminals would acquire the site as an extension to its existing T4 facility and news of the acquisition comes as no surprise to industry watchers.
