C4i ports system commissioned in Townsville

C4i ports system commissioned in Townsville

Work on the contract, awarded last November with a delivery date of this March, involved the relocation of the Great Barrier Reef VTS operations to a new centre in Townsville and coincided with cyclone ‘Ului’ crossing the central Queensland coast near the existing VTS centre at Hay Point.

The VCC&CS uses an integrated voice command and control management system for maritime traffic along the Great Barrier Reef and in the near future, will provide the same service for the Ports of Townsville, Abbot Point and Lucinda.

“The Townsville system represents C4i’s first IP based port control system and leverages from the many benefits of the IP based technology C4i have already deployed using the SwitchplusIP product,” said Peter Harrison, C4i managing director.
