The initiative – launched in September 2009 – offers truckers a maximum waiting time of 60 minutes between entering the port area from the Autopista del Sol and leaving the terminal, after which STI will pay for overtime. “With this measure, STI has set a new standard of quality service, making it the only Latin American terminal that pays carriers for waiting time,” said Alberto Borquez, STI’s general manager.
Since March 31, 2010, a total of 169 728 trucks have been handled of which only 110 have stayed more than sixty minutes in the terminal. This corresponds to 0.06% of the total, and payment to them has amounted to US$1,655.00.
If STI is not able to meets its “Guaranteed Time” standard, truckers are paid cash compensation as follows:
